56 is the sound clue in this site's name. MU comes from Japanese number wordplay; it is not the usual reading of 6.
He wants to become King of the Pirates, and knows he cannot sail alone. His friends navigate, cook, heal and repair the ship; he takes responsibility for the captain's decisions when it matters.

01Promises
Shanks gives Luffy his hat, asking him to return it when he becomes a great pirate. Before facing Arlong, Luffy places that same hat on Nami's head. Both gestures let something precious leave its owner's hands: someone trusted Luffy's future, and now he answers a friend's plea. The hat carries the weight of that trust.
02Belonging
Nami asks for help. Robin says she wants to live. Sanji admits he wants to return to the Sunny. Each has hidden a wish to protect someone else. At Enies Lobby, Luffy needs Robin's own answer; in Whole Cake Island, he insists on waiting for Sanji. Rescue gains its direction when a friend can speak honestly, and face the consequences with others beside them.
03Loss
At Sabaody, Luffy orders his friends to split up and escape, yet watches them vanish one by one. After Marineford, Jinbe reminds him that his friends are still waiting. Postponing their reunion for two years is a concrete response to defeat. Responsibility also means recognizing what you cannot do yet, and preparing to set sail again.
04Freedom
Tama serves Luffy precious rice while going hungry herself. His promise that she will eat her fill every day gives the fight against Kaido a tangible outcome: can this child live well after he leaves? The meaning of victory must also reach an ordinary family's table.
05Protection
To cure Bonney's illness, Kuma accepts modifications that will gradually erase his sense of self. His memories on Egghead let his daughter see the price he paid; his arrival to save her brings the past into the present. Actions once read as mysteries acquire emotional meaning. The World Government's violence becomes the story of a father forced to surrender his own life.

From Foosha Village, Luffy meets Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji. Defeating Arlong earns him his first bounty before he heads for the Grand Line.

Vivi joins the journey, and Chopper becomes a crewmate. Luffy defeats Crocodile and helps stop the civil war. Robin comes aboard the Merry after the crew leaves.

Following clues to a city of gold, the crew reaches the sky and faces Enel. The golden bell rings again, carrying Noland and Kalgara's story back to the sea below.

The Davy Back Fight against Foxy puts the crew itself at stake. An encounter with Aokiji then brings Robin's past and a larger threat into view.

The Merry can sail no farther, and a quarrel between Luffy and Usopp splits the crew. Robin leaves with CP9; her friends follow the sea train toward Enies Lobby.

The crew declares war on the World Government to rescue Robin. Gears Two and Three debut. After saying goodbye to the Merry, they welcome Franky and continue aboard the Sunny.

Luffy strikes a Celestial Dragon to save a friend, bringing a Navy admiral to the island. Overwhelmed by stronger enemies, the Straw Hats are sent across the world by Kuma.

Luffy reaches Amazon Lily and meets Hancock. When he learns Ace is to be executed, he puts finding his friends on hold and heads for Impel Down.

An alliance with Law uncovers Caesar's experiments and the artificial Devil Fruit trade. Meeting Kin'emon and Momonosuke begins the long thread leading toward Wano.

Sabo reunites with Luffy and obtains the Flame-Flame Fruit. The Straw Hats and their allies overthrow Doflamingo, Gear Four debuts, and the Straw Hat Grand Fleet forms after the battle.

The Minks risk everything to protect Raizo, revealing their bond with the Kozuki clan. A Road Poneglyph points toward Laugh Tale; the group splits up to rescue Sanji and prepare for Wano.

Luffy enters Big Mom's territory to bring Sanji back. The wedding plan unravels, Brook secures a Road Poneglyph rubbing, and Luffy fights Katakuri before the group's difficult escape.

Royal families linked to the Straw Hats gather at the Holy Land, while Sabo infiltrates to rescue Kuma. Imu and the Empty Throne reveal deeper mysteries within the World Government.

The alliance faces Kaido and Big Mom at Onigashima; Jinbe formally joins the crew. Luffy awakens Gear Five and defeats Kaido. Wano gains a new shogun, and his bounty rises to 3 billion.

The crew meets Vegapunk and Bonney on the island of the future, then faces a siege by the Navy and Five Elders. Kuma protects his daughter, Vegapunk broadcasts to the world, and the Giant Warrior Pirates help the crew escape.

Leaving Egghead, the Straw Hats head toward the giants' homeland, Elbaph. The Giant Warrior Pirates connect this voyage to earlier adventures. This arc is ongoing; consult the official directory and manga for further developments.

Stretch, elasticity and resistance to electricity shape his early battles. Blades, Haki attacks, seawater and Seastone remain threats.

She reads Poneglyphs in search of the Void Century. After Enies Lobby, the search for truth becomes a voyage with people she can trust.

Take his own ship to the world's end
Water Seven's cyborg shipwright turns the Sunny's plans into a seafaring ship. Repairs and improvements let his dream withstand the voyage.
09 / MUSICIAN
Meet Laboon again
Music preserves the Rumbar Pirates' promise to Laboon. The Revive-Revive Fruit restores his life; after long solitude, he finds friends who will listen to him play.
10 / HELMSMAN
Build a better bond between humans and fish-men
A former Warlord, he knows the currents and masters Fish-Man Karate. Fighting beside Luffy at Impel Down and Marineford builds trust long before he joins the ship.
